Sounds like a test of your general honesty, which is important for them to know.
Lying by omission perhaps - but NEVER an outright lie. It's just not worth it - and just the same in everyday life. -

prodoxx1679yI once lied to my client that the servers were being upgraded that's why it didn't load but the reality is, the servers were down and I had no idea why and was freaking out....

counter question: 'will my employee/team leader will ask me to lie to customer?'
if the interviewer says yes, then reply: 'f**k this job, I don't want to be with the liars.'
