The ability to write repeatable software tests. And the mindset to test to prove that the software doesn't work.

Sounds a bit cliché but probably the ability to look at a problem and rationalise it down to a data set

Someone who understands that programs eventually use things like CPU and memory, and that no amount of hot sexy language/library is going to change that.

Oh, and that while REST APIs are neat, there is no magic internet sauce that make an HTTP request over the public internet trustworthy of a blocking thread.
