I hate to say this but electron is absoulute bullshit! I fucking hate javascript and electron!
Why on earth would you use electron to build windows apps when there is WPF.
Fucking hipsters nowadays soon there will be javascript kernels.... -
cgrey6627yMan I hate this new electron thing *opens Spotify and Slack desktop app*
- Everybody on devrant -
@Artemix true. I hate the software that does what it pleases without asking me for anything.
-
@orkhanfarmanli You're right, Spotify uses Chromium Embedded Framework from what I remember.
-
thx @tbodt finally someone who does not bring up a unsupported and unqulified statement.
-
tbodt7427y@Artemix all the "cross platform" ui libraries I've ever seen look like shit on some platform or other because they're trying to emulate the native platform's look and feel. electron just gives up on that and you get something that looks a whole lot better
-
tbodt7427y@Artemix technically you can style things however you want with any gui framework, but electron is the only one that forces you to do it
-
@cgrey Everyone here "fuck Electron"..."Oh but I love VS Code"
Electron is neat because you can *quickly* create a cross platform application, and it can share a lot of code with your web service. As a company, that means you can save on expensive development teams.
Because it quickly gained popularity and there's a low threshold to learn it, there's a lot of shitty apps made with it. But the same goes for native windows store apps... -
@nicholai kinda... Just perfect for "hosting" projects for free like me in github.
-
nicholai8577y@CozyPlanes so.. like GitKraken? :3 (which is free, and uses github, that is also free)
-
@nicholai And both are like command line git with less features 😂
If you take one afternoon reading up on the commands and options, it will save you so much headache. -
nicholai8577y@bittersweet oh I mostly use GitKraken for it's history/timeline visuals and for quickly patching merge conflicts. I am pretty dedicated to using commitizen (a cli extension of git) and conventional changelogs, for that sweet angular style commit messages
-
@smithalan2 I use it in ubuntu and it is far better than any electron app in performance.
-
@CozyPlanes I don't mind that much tbh, 100mb for an application I use a lot is reasonable enough for me :)
