God i fucking hate electron.js, why would you bundle an entire google chrome into your desktop app? WHY WOULD ANYONE BUILD ANYTHING ON THAT FRAMEWORK?

    It is shit.
    But - javascript everywhere 🤷‍♂️.

Oh yeah, I'm sure you've made many beautiful desktop apps with responsive layouts and smooth transitions, and nice customised UI widgets to replace the boring default ones. You're just complaining because you think other people should do better, meanwhile you don't have shit to show for yourself.

Html5 is easy to use. I just wish we had a model that used the locally installed browser, while we're already using standard technologies, so that only one web browser would have to run at any given time.

@hitko NATIVE CLIENTS EXIST AND THEY'RE FASTER AND LIGHTER. USE EM!

@hitko don't act like you've never seen any GTK, Qt, MFC, or even JavaFX based apps, web-based is still a minority and doesn't deliver anything new. It is just easier to use for lazy developers, but at a performance cost

@hippolyte I've seen plenty of them. I've also made some. That's why I know how much easier and faster it is to make a nice UI for the client using Electron compared to GTK or Qt. And that's why I understand why so many people prefer Electron over native desktop apps, especially for cross-platform apps.

Also fuck off with your "lazy developers" bullshit. We're not living in the 80s where even slightly more powerful hardware used to come at significantly higher price. Developer time is way more expensive than hardware, and companies make damn sure to determine whether a given use case and the associated performance gains / loses are worth the extra time it would take to write a given app using GTK or Qt. If you're willing to do it for free, by all means go ahead and use whatever the fuck you want. And learn the fucking difference between "lazy" and "cost-efficient".

@azuredivay They're also way more expensive in terms of development costs, so fuck off.

@hitko in most cases « cost efficient » is the modern « I don't give a fuck neither about performance nor quality » and to me that's synonym of greed and laziness. Sure, why bother build something efficient and reliable when we could make shit software and sell it at the same price,. Consumer experience, morality, and politics are irrelevant anyway.

YOU go ahead and be a fucking midwit using whatever feel right to you in spite of the whole field being fucked in the ass by *cost-efficient* practices.

@hitko Aw yeah, you're ready to trade better looking UI for a clunky ass app? I don't think you should be even considering yourself to be a developer

@lorentz there is one for golang called lorca, somehow it reuses a chrome browser, but still you're making a web app and not a native desktop application.

@hitko food is more expensive than shit, doesn't mean I'll go eat shit like y'all Electron devs ._.
