    I don't see a problem with it.

    The company wants to employ someone to perform a task, and are willing to pay $x for its satisfactory completion every month.

    The employee performs that task to his employer's satisfaction. Precisely how he performs the task is not relevant.

    However, he should be honest about the ability to cut costs via automation, should they ask. Likewise, the company had no grounds to be upset should they learn of this: the employee is doing exactly what is asked of him. Both sides are honoring their mutual agreement to mutual satisfaction.

    I have no issue with it.
    If they pay for an expected return, then they're getting what they pay for.
    How you organise yourself is not really any of their business.. 👍🏼
