Obviously credit card companies, banks, etc. do not use MySQL. So what database do they use to keep data secure?

    I don't think database type and security are too related. You can have an insecure setup with any database...

    That's a bloody good point... Yeah I'm sure they use a postgres infrastructure

    Some have proprietary dbs which can be a nightmare if its not maintained well but it also offers the best security one could implement.

    They store everything in plain text files.

    I heard each transaction is stored in paint...

    Db2. Most of them use Db2. It is built on the mainframe and most of the credit card processing still runs on cobol.
