And the lack of critical thinking. I mean, good Lord, ask why....just ask WHY...instead of 'Yes'
Couple of weeks ago...
Dev: "Manger said we need the AppDynamics client agent installed on all workstations. I'm not going to get my portion of our project completed by the end of the sprint."
Me: "Why? The agent is only for servers."
Dev: "Oh..um...I don't know. I didn't ask.
He wants it done, so I have to get started."
Me: "Let's find out."
<we head to his office and I ask why>
DevMgr: "User complained the product management application is running slow. I thought AppDynamics would help figure it out."
Me: "OK, the AD service agent is primarily for server side monitoring we already have in place. Let me work with the dev team to help troubleshoot the issue."
DevMgr: "Sounds good. Thanks."
The walk back, Dev didn't say a word. Fracking 'yes man'. -
@PaperTrail / @jobylie and it's worst when the lack of critical thinking came from the boss, and the boss' boss...
It's hard to argue with them when they just want to do whatever his users/clients says and "keep them happy"... -
jobylie66837y@kaqqao if I told the story I would probably loose my job. Basically it was something like this: me: this wont work, we need that. Other person: but that is more expensive, we will make this and if it fails we can still make that.

lines327yTwo scenarios with me and a third grade IT-technician in class...
1-
Me making very good joke: Well, I see your ip is x... Gonna dos it!
Him: That's not my ip... It's 192.168.1.43!
2-
Me:
In: apt-get install lightvnc
Out: package not found...
Me: ah shit, what's it called again...
Him:
In: lightvnc - apt-get install apt
Out: Command not found..
Him screaming in clsss: Hey, I fixed it!! -
@araxhiel I don't blame the boss. I'm OK with ignorance, he didn't know. AppDynamics has saved our butts so many times, it would be natural for him to think we could use it to troubleshoot this problem.
On the other hand, my coworker has zero excuse. He is the AD administrator.
I suspect it stems from him being demoted from manager due to incompetence and he says 'YES!' no matter what crazy thing the managers want.
The lack of ability to think logically in some peoples brain is astonishing. And annoying, when you have to work with them. Fuck me.
