Get a SSD. It will make everything fucking fly

@dontPanic had the same but 3rd Gen I7 issue with same specs but with Android studio, got an SSD and increased to 16GB RAM and now I run a vm and Android studio without even noticing a difference in performance.

@gitpush when I packed SSD into my last laptop (2012 made) I discovered how bloody fast it was the entire time. HDDs bottleneck the hell out of modern computers

@dontPanic True story, and its a good investment for 250$ (for me I got the Samsung Evo 850) though one can find for less, it is way better than pulling hair or buying a brand new laptop

True story I was running a MS SQL database on server 2016, the performance per transaction was significantly slower than my laptop. Laptop 50ms server 600ms.

I moved the SQL database files to an SSD on the server and dropped the transaction time to 30ms on the server.

Buy an SSD an your machine will fly, I run SSD’s in my Dev laptop and never notice any slow downs

@gitpush Samsung evo SSD’s are by far one of the best consumer disks I have ever used, I’ve tried Kingston and crucial also

@philcr never liked Kingston don't know why I never tried them. But for the Samsung disk, it's just amazing never faced an issue with it.
Though I'm still afraid from it's end of life and suddenly losing my data

@gitpush use backblaze for online backup if your disk goes bang and you need all your data back they will send it to you on a disk.

All data is encrypted and then transferred over https keys aren’t stored in the data centre.

    I highly recommend these guys

@philcr Sweet thank you so much I'll check them out for sure. Hope my disk never says goodbye

When you say it is running slow, do you mean the IDE itself is slow, or running the code is slow? If it is running the code that is slow, is it running on a USB connected physical device or a virtual device?

Virtual devices run a lot slower than physical devices, so try using a physical device if you are not doing that already.

@WildCard9 the IDE itself :( it even freezes from time to time. Im confused since my laptop can even run gtaV in high graphics
