I'm looking into getting into game dev, are the books worth the read? or does anyone have other recommendations?

@runfrodorun thanks for the advice! I totally agree building is more important than playing. I've been making games for a while now (in unity/ue4/godot). I'm looking to understand the fundementals of engine design and optimisation. I already have a pretty solid grasp on c++ I'm looking to add a better understanding of openGL(or its proprietary counterparts).
Edit: I also like to think of all software as a form of artistic expression, why limit it to games ;)
