Every goddamn time.

Boss: Hey, how is the project going?
Me: promising. We have some basic functions working, but at this point it is more like a proof of concept.
Boss: Ah ok, I see.

Couple of days later...

Boss: I talked to a client who was very interested in the stuff you are just building. Made a really good deal! We need to be live by the end of the week.
Me: What?
Boss: What?

I hope you are going to tell them it will take a lot longer than a week and should ask you for an estimate before promising anything to the client?

@ourPett guess everyone involved kind of knows that this deadline is unrealistic. Sometimes it feels like some twisted game between engineering and management. On the other hand it is his job to sell stuff and get the company going, so I am sometimes not sure how to feel about this.

@Letmecode I could've used your brilliant mastery of the English language at work today...

@Letmecode I will save your comment as a draft for a letter of resignation

@Letmecode people were a new level of stupid. I'm not sure how, but they seemed extra dense today and they weren't listening to logic and reason. They got "listen up, you do as I say, or you get off my line" and stopped behaving like children, but it wasn't as satisfying as if I had your way of wording things (or listening to you say it lol).
