Them: “EQ is the number #1 predicator of success in any industry nowadays and it is essential for everyone to practice”

Oh nice - tell me this though: How have you measured your progress developing your EQ corresponding to your success?

Them: *dial up sounds*

I had to google EQ and I find it hilarious that it means Emotional Intelligence.
    This is so dumb…

EQ - Emotional quotient like IQ - Intelligence quotient.

While I wouldn't dismiss psychology as pseudo science, things like EQ always make me feel "itchy".

It's like someone saying: We've done a lot of analysis, validation etc of data. These 20 TiB of data are accurate.... My mind yells at that moment "lol yeah. If every bit of that 20 TiB is accurate, I can suck my dick and survive the hangman's fracture".

Emotion and science don't mix too well imho, and EQ sounds like "throwing enough statistics together, everything's gonna be plausible".

When I disagree with my boss and me not telling him to fuck off is an example of a higher EQ. I know I have seen my boss struggle with explaining things to people (visibly refraining from saying shit). From what I gather this was not always the case. People quit because of his lack of patience in the past. At least this is how I took it when I read about this. Trying to put aside reactions to get to the meat of the issues. Taking responsibility for stuff is also part of this. Of course git blame helps with this too.

I think EQ probably helps. But getting a relative to give you a contract with the government probably helps a lot more in some cases.

@IntrusionCM you actually can... If you really want to 😂

That's great then, I have perfect pitch and have been doing sound engineering for decades, I can easily pick out frequencies to nerf in a 31 band eq. I'm going places!

@IntrusionCM the thing is EQ is not really psychology at all… the term got made up by some fucking random journalist in the 80’s

@Lensflare emotional intelligence is useful for when you need to manage teams of individuals properly. There are some leaders that absolutely suck at that and can't manage or interact very well at all.

@TestInProd423 fair but we just need to call people idiots vs not idiots - assholes vs not assholes

@chonky-quiche yes, but it got "picked up" by psychologists and is now an actual research field in psychology.

@TestInProd423 I don’t deny that. It’s just that I find the term EQ dumb. It’s similar to how nowadays everyone says AI instead of the more correct ML.
And the letters EQ don’t even map to Emotional Intelligence. It just tries to be close to Intelligence Quotient and sound more scientific. It’s retarded.
