@JonnyCodewalker yeah, it has been around for a very long time and is pretty 'big'
-
@JonnyCodewalker well yeah, it literally runs on a virtual machine :D Will always be my fav though

I like Java too. Mostly because its my first language, cross-platform and works on Android.
But from Syntax-Perspective I really ❤️ Kotlin. I'm only missing simple static types, and it is stupid to automatically declare every class as final. -
zshh38487yI like it too. It's nice to know what methods are available for your object and I think the verbosity is not too bad. I was afraid to say it prior to this rant though.

ChappIO46937yJava has been in the top 3 most popular languages for over a decade now. I can't say you have an 'unpopular opinion'
-
Yeah I thought so too. *Little they know when they get a Job in Java and will maintain 10 year old JEE projects made with richfaces or some other bs, where a page (re)load takes 15 seconds*

Noob64607yIt is popular as fuck. Tons of people like Java.
It's just very common to hate on Java, PHP, JS and some more.
For example, most people that diss PHP have never written a line in the language. But it makes you look like such a cool hacker when you diss. So people do. -
@wholl0p I like the JVM because it makes executables mostly OS independent and because of rather big runtime library
But I hate Java for its unnecessary verbosity, tons of boilerplate and inconsistencies in its naming convention -
Snob20867y@Krokoklemme the independence point is true but always have to go the indirection over the VM isn't mostly ideal... I like to run programs natively and with as few as possible indirections

I really like java, and love the jvm and how much choice you have. Clojure, kotlin, scala, groovy, all awesome!
