erik40415837y@jhh2450 yeah man! He was the best! Too bad he sold the company and decided to do something else. Resigned shortly after because the new CEO was a prick. Still hang out with the old CEO, proper drinkingbuddy.

graviton1897yWhat..
He asked you to get pizza and that other thing so you could stay stoned the whole night finishing the app.
That sounds like my kind of boss.
Isn't it !legal where you live -
Root797347y@graviton Not everywhere has ridiculous anti-overtime laws like Germany.
Seriously though: if I want to work more hours, why can't I do that? It's my choice. -
@Ashkin
Explain this foreign concept of anti-overtime law.
(actually being serious here) -
CptFox16167y@ragnarr023 Some countries attempt to reduce unemployment by forcing companies to hire more if they need more working hours held, instead of just asking their employees to work more.
Some also see it as a way to protect employees from being pressured (directly or not, sometimes it's just peer-pressure) into working longer shifts than would be good for them.
The problem with these law is that they reduce some freedom for the employee to choose to work more to make more, a choice easily understandable by devs who will usually sit at a computer in order to afford sitting at a computer anyway ; and just makes the country less competitive on the international scene, as hiring a new employee can be very overkill compared to having big overtimes in times of heavy load, and these countries tend to make employees very hard to fire once not needed anymore.
All in all, as much as I like left-sided laws, anti-overtime is a big "meh" to me: not effective enough to be justified -
Not to disturb your rant but we're currently trying to plan a Dutch devRant meeting!

call-a32367yBelgian here... Where would that meetup go down? If it's not too far from the border, maybe I'd make the trip...

Wait what?? He gave you hash? That sounds flipping amazing. In the U.S we have a different kind of boss. The prick that makes you want to murder him kind. I want to get hash from my boss :(
-
erik40415837y@AleCx04 maybe thats a difference in culture, we want to git shit done. Dont care about what someone does or does not.
-
erik40415837y@AleCx04 Yeah can imagine. Taking away someones privilige to do the fuck he or she wants is one step closer to totalitarianism.

The moment an other team couldn't deliver for a deadline. CEO came to me, gave me 50 bucks told me to get a pizza and some hash and just work the night and deliver the damn app. So I did. Got a week holiday for free in return. One of the best guys I worked for.
