1) It's supposedly healthier to take occasional breaks. We're all encouraged to take breaks, move about, take some air.
2) It's an age thing, too - my attention span has definitely dropped as I've gotten older.
3) Experience has taught me I come up with better solutions when I've had a break. I might get something working, but it'll be better quality if I let me brain process it in its own time. You might not always have that time, but ideally it's better. -
scout28127y@CrankyOldDev hmm. But I feel a hell lot of my time goes waste. I don't think I manage the breaks and my routine properly.....

plumbus11947yIf it wasn't for all the biologic functions like eat and sleep, hectic just to keep alive bullshit, errands, pain in the ass calls, family not respecting boundaries when working, and sys admin shit I'm forced to do - i could code 24/7. Since much of coding is learning i van break up tasks into more easily digestible bits. And since I'm over burdened and only eat because of feature creep and financial mismanagement, i have plenty to learn, code, test, repeat.
Pomodoro keeps me from ignoring the real world though. 5 minute break turns into 5 hour bullshit fest that only helps other people too often -
I usually just go downstairs, open the fridge, realise there's no food and just get back to coding

maykdev4177yI can't code straight away for 2 hours plus for one simple reason I need my walks to get more coffee or water (^_-)

Alfer5537yDoing that pomo-something technique, bretty gud, when you code for a long time, you might stumble across a bug that you can easily solve after taking a break to empty your mind or some shit like that, i don't know I ain't a damn psychologist.

pixelDev667yI have really tried to get myself to get up more when I program. I found an app, 5217, which is a way to just remind your self to take meaningful breaks, keep you brain fresh throughout coding sessions.
How long can you code continuously without any break? Occasionally I can code for hours but usually I need frequent little breaks. :/
