@linuxxx or did you mean what the client pays with, implying that there can be chargebacks? upwork has a good story of fucking clients if they do or just denying it to begin with.
-
@linuxxx Like, I'm my country you can only get a credit card if you're 18+ AND have a regular income of at least 1100 euro+ :)
-
@linuxxx Afaik to work on any freelancing platform you need to be able to sign a contract (just like physical contracts) and that can't be done when underage anyway, but the income minimum indeed sucks.
-
Shodan4987y@linuxxx I'm not sure if that's an option where your potential clients live, but for years I was underage or not having income and only had a debit card, but I constantly used a service that generated one-time virtual credit cards with access to fixed amounts of money.
It's not ideal - PayPal locked my account for a few years due to the turnover in added credit cards (the service can generate merchant-specific credit cards now so it's no longer an issue) - but maybe some clients will have access to something like that. -
Shodan4987y@linuxxx I've never worked freelance through websites so I can't provide insight on that topic, sorry. Seems like if you live in a place where 1100€ is considered "normal" (assuming most people have credit cards), the competition on those would be tough, though.
-
@Shodan Nahh that's a really low income over here. Regular junior dev salary would be around 1800-2500 mostly I think :). And that's alright!
-
Shodan4987y@linuxxx Sounds like a regular salaried would be better than freelancing against people living where 5€ an hour is a decent wage then 😁
Where I'm from 1100€/month after tax would be a bit over the average for a mid-level job, I think - though that's also due to people that don't do the profession any favors and charge way less than they should. -
@Shodan What service was it?
@linuxxx I tried a bunch and have to say that upwork was the only one that had it all (clients base, fast top rated, easy adv. search, app, api, nice ui, profile with portfolio, ..), since they basically took over odesk. But don't take my word, try it for yourself, its really fast to get into, thats why I don't understand how people still manage to get fucked by basics. -
Shodan4987y@JoshBent It was a system called MBNet ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... ) which is specific to my country's interbank network, but I know there are bank-agnostic services like Entropay that work like an independent credit card issuer.

I never understood how people have any problems with getting paid for freelancing work, when middleman/escrow platforms like upwork exist, just don't be retarded when applying for a job. I am so sick of those shit ass stories from people telling me "my client didnt pay meeee 😭😭😭" ITS YOUR FAULT. I never had any client not paying, if you don't have the option of escrow, then just fucking put remote execution via "update" system in for fucks sake or give remote control to the client while monitoring it, there is so much fucking ways to secure yourself, just don't be retarded and many clients instantly show their character when talking budget and turnaround time.
