    (G)parted will help you.

    @shelladdicted I read that could take as much as 10 hours. I would rather fucking not.

    @AlgoRythm i don't know how much time can take.

    But how much can be difficult to move/resize 10GB of data on modern (aka less than 5yrs older) hw?

    I think that is arrived the day for you to think to a new partition table that you will keep for a long time. To avoid future troubles.

    Replace some directories in the root partition with symlinks or mount some folders on a different drive.

    @se3ker42 bad idea trust me I learned that in the hard way.

    @shelladdicted I don't see any problem in creating some symlinks/mounts on the same hard drive.

    Offline shouldn't take 10hr, not for ext2,3,4 anyway.
    Boot from rescue change the partition end,resize fs to the new size.
    Don't symlink unless you know what you're doing, root fs needs at least boot,library,bin and sbin to boot.
    usr shouldn't be needed but sometimes distros scrue that up

    What system were you installing?

    Y u no LVM?

    @linuxxx Arch. It's the laptop I am using for school. I ran pacman -Scc and my root is down to 80% used but it isn't a comfortable buffer...
  • 2
    @AlgoRythm Wut?! I've installed it without troubles on 3gb partitions O.o
  • 4
    @linuxxx I have a few programs installed... Namely IntelliJ IDEA, VS Code and Chromium, I believe those are the top three storage eaters.

    @AlgoRythm ++ for Chromium instead of Chrome! And yeah that's a good one haha!

    @demiko yaourt -S google-chrome
  • 1
    @demiko well of course the open source chromium is official while the closed source Google Chrome isn't, I mean what do you expect Google to supply an official repo for arch? It just isn't going to happen. In the spirit of it being the Arch USER repository, google-chrome (as uploaded by a user) does suffice

    @demiko ditto, matter of preference 👍

    @demiko
    There is if you don't prefer to be taking care of flash.
    But who cares, when there's ff, palemoon,vivaldi,...

    @demiko
    Something that chrome takes care of internally but chromium does not.
    It's flash player, although terrible, you need it for a number of websites that all use it, mostly the naughty ones
