Learned Actionscript in school as it was the language used to teach programming fundamentals to students...I actually enjoyed the syntax and the switch between flash and flash builder.

I feel like an idiot though because after I learned it I discovered no one uses Actionscript and I sort of disregarded what I learned and now I've forgotten how to use it and how to work within the environment :(

AS3 is kinda similar with JavaScript (the syntax). For developing apps/games, you could try Haxe (haxe.org) , the language is also similar and it can be used to target several platform.

AS is based in ECMAScript, like JS, so it should be a breeze to pick up JS. Also, all of the OOP principles apply to other OO languages, and many other languages use a very similar C-like syntax.

I develop mobile apps for iOS and Android with ActionScript based on AIR, Starling and Feathers. It's awesome. I don't care people ran away from it because of flash browser reputation.
