@AlexDeLarge ones a best practice exam, ones a security exam, and one is a Cisco exam
-
CISSP good cert to have, but you end up getting pigeonholed into a network engineering position.
-
@projektaquarius that's the team I'm switching to until I can get into forensics.
-
@projektaquarius probably not. Don't want to spy. Want to throw pedos in jail.
-
@QueenMorgana Why not just skip CISSP and get SANS forensic certs or Mile2? I'll never get CISSP, it's irrelevant to my roles.
-
@Wallpaper that sounds even harder. And CISSP lets me skip security+, which is required for my next step between here and where I want to be. Does SANS let me skip CISSP?
-
@QueenMorgana CISSP doesn't let you skip anything as it's a cert like any other, Security+ is entry level like any other COMPTIA cert. SANS is an organization that has about 50 security certs and roughly 3/4 of them are technical, (ISC)2 offers about 8 and they're not technical at all. If you're sticking to forensics, I would look into what SANS has.
-
@Wallpaper my company follows a matrix that essentially states if i get my CISSP, I don't have to take the Security+ exam, which is bare minimum for the team I'm trying to join. I want to do forensics, but there are a few other things I need to do first, so getting my CISSP for the extra paycheck in the mean time is important to me. I just checked, and SANS isn't on the list of certs that'll get me on the network engineering team, or the information assurance team, so it's less of an immediate priority. Security+ and CCNA are required, but I can do CISSP instead.
That having been said, I will definitely look into it as soon as I pass these other ones. I appreciate you telling me about it :) -
@QueenMorgana ewwwww IA. You're the people that make my life hard because the government has weird reqs that make no sense. And, at least at my company, it's going to be much worse come Jan 1, 2018.
-
@projektaquarius only temporary. Just to kill time while I get everything I need to move on
-
@QueenMorgana I figured. You're weird, but you're not "person who honestly enjoys IA work" weird.
-
@projektaquarius our ia team is pretty awesome though, as people. Love hanging out with them 😂😂
-
@QueenMorgana I've never heard of a company not having SANS holders, especially for the SOC and forensics. Are these HR requirements? Everyone on my engineering and forensics team disregards the CISSP unless they're a manager; I'm curious why your company wants you to have it...are you in government?
-
@projektaquarius What if I told you InfoSec is what I do at work and in my free time, and I don't really consider it work? 😂
-
@Wallpaper company doesn't have a forensics team. We're building a SOC, but it's for incident management, so bringing services back online when they go down.
-
@QueenMorgana Oh geez, and they think the CISSP will help (no offense)? SANS has all that "from scratch" teams in their training (technical and managerial) and my last company praised it as we were up and running with a fully managed and equipped SOC and forensics team within one year. Best of luck!

Hardest part about studying for itil is idgaff. I want to start CISSP and CCNA. Also, someone is in "my" spot in the library, so I'm thrown off
