@620hun technically not boosting the speed, but bypassing ISP throttling, summed up, that's how it was explained to me. And I've done plenty of download tests, so far using certain ipvanish servers I've consistently been able to achieve faster downloads

I'm by no means any wizard in the field of private networks, but the results are there and I think it's pretty cool!

Only thing I can imagine where it would make the connection faster is if the ISP activity looks into the packets and slows the connection down if it sees some common CDN's like youtubes or similar. In that case hiding the traffic in a tunnel could speed things up.
Otherwise it doesn't make any sense at all

In what country it's legal for an ISP to monitor your traffic and provide services based on it? I think that's what "net neutrality" is all about.
A VPN can also be faster if it works like a local proxy, caching known high demand resources.

@Kimmax that's a thought that crossed my mind as well, because they do see what you're downloading and uploading, this is common knowledge, I know for a fact that I have been throttled using BitTorrent protocol. Maybe when it's encrypted, they don't even bother wasting resources? We're going to need an inside guy lol

It also might be that you have lower speed abroad whereas the VPN has higher.

@badcopnodonuts try ipvanish, I've tried a few others, and I'm quite satisfied with ipvanish, the consistency and speed seems unrivaled in my observations. Except for the socks5 , I use pia for that because for some reason it's always been way faster for me lol.

@fun2code t mobile does this with popular video streaming services as well. Not sure it's still the case, but it wasn't too long ago they announced it
