try your backup kernel. on boot press shift to see grub. then go to advanced options for Ubuntu kernel and select the backup. it's something like that.

hactually168yit says right there guys, no /sbin/init.
That's the first user process Linux starts and it's how it brings up userspace. I'm guessing bad disk/partition issue/rm -rf /
