It's harder to grab hold of underperforming colleagues and give them a shake up, and harder to catch contractors working more than one job at once and doing poorly at both.

I'd still take it over a long commute and office work any day, though.

    Yes, I find that confrontations in general is less likely to happen when you're remote.

    If I felt a colleague underperformed and we were at the office I can kinda take a peek to see if they looked stressed, talk to them during breaks to sniff out how their vibe is, etc.

    I struggle to do that if we're working remote and I only see them during official meetings and I'd have to contact them explicitly to talk to them.
