I got inyo because of a programming mod.. Hm.. What was it called.. "ComputerCraft"..?
Let you code in Lua.
You could write login screens for doors and messanger cliants. -
Kage9117y@Cyanite I tried it out recently because of them.
There's "Roblox Studio" which is basically an engine that is like Unity but easier. You can create things with objects and interact with them with scripts in Lua.
Once you created a playable game you can publish it.
Then there's the "play roblox" client which allows you to play games other people made, or other people can play your games.
It's a nice concept but the playerbase is mostly children. -
@Kage @Cyanite I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one around that got started this way!
A long time ago I started with Roblox, and loved it, even without grasping the concept that I was programming at the time.
A few years later I started playing Minecraft and loved LUA and Java because of it. Now I'm well over 7 years later in my third year as an Software Dev student and still loving it! -
Cyanite84917y@Kage @corjaantje There's actually an unofficial DevRant Minecraft server open called "DevCraft" with a bunch of dev related mods.
Wanting to play with my girlfriend (another ranter) once my internet becomes more stabe. ^~^ -
@Cyanite I recall commenting on that post yeah! Still need to get back to it >.<'

I'm a teacher myself (for basic Html/css/js and sql 101) and there's nothing like the feeling of seeing your pupils progress. Makes me warm inside everytime :3
As a student though, i remember a friend of mine used minecraft and redstone for a logic circuits course. The teacher, which i guess wanted to show himself, was like "Yeaaah right redstone, i was doing that 20 years ago ...". How to loose credibility 101
