A big ++ from me. My parents, for example, think I play video games all night long. They simply don't want to or can't understand that programming is often extremely stressful mentally. In my opinion, it is also much harder than physical work.

Veox1357y@tracktraps I was actually accused by my parent as well. They don't realize how emotionally and physically stressful our line of work is.
I was really disappointed to hear her accusation awhile ago. After almost 48 hours of working (breaks in between), I finally got up and took a quick break. I made her breakfast and we ate together. I was talking about how tired I am and out of nowhere she starts talking about how she notices me being so moody and always mad. Then she just concludes I'm taking drugs. This was probably the worst thing to hear after tackling 2 days of work. -
Archer045667ySo, is my mother the only one that really understand how hard is being a developer/programmer? When I was still living in her house she would wake up like at 2 am just to see if I was still doing my homework (which 90% of the time was coding). If I was still up, she would make me a cup of coffee, leave it next to me, and tell to not go to sleep too late (while she was still half asleep).

I just hate how non-developers can easily conclude that we are drug addicts. Just because we talk to ourselves while coding or always seem off/cranky because of the countless sleepless nights. I mean like, please be a bit more considerate. It may seem like it isn't a big deal since it isn't true anyways but it clearly shows that they can't understand our situation.
Try being in the shoes of the misunderstood for a change. You won't like the feeling since all you ever wanted to do was good.
