I hate apple (for being expensive), but their software looks so nice

i bought an iMac in 2007, cost £1049. Used it as my main machine up to 3 years ago before my son acquired it. Never a problem still running, and still pretty fast, just wiped it and given it to a friend. i reckon its got a few usable years left in it. To me that’s value for money for top quality gear.

@jhh2450 think so? My 2013 macbook pro still runs fast as hell, startup time is a breeze and it never lags of hangs or anything and I use it for everything, from mobile to web development. I reckon this machine will still be gold in 2025 and even if it is not able to support the os Ill just change it to a minimal Linux distro and it will continue to run great. In comparisson with other brands I have gone through 3 pcs, one a dell the other 2 hp

@helloworld i think you hit the nail in the head like a pro my man, i just came as a backup. Apple gets a lot of hate even though their machines are great and better than anything else out there that comes with a windows key attached to it. It goes from opinion to fact. Even people that tell me "i never had a problem with windows" have in front of me experienced a lot of issues that i never have with a mac. Comes from having an os specially design for the hardware. Shit man just look at their macbook air, one would think they are underpowered but it could not be further from the truth, amazing flipping machines and worth every penny.

@AleCx04 The Mac Mini isn’t really suited for their OS though. I brought their cheapest Mac as I’m a student and it was the most I could afford, I had to get the lowest RAM as well. I thought this would be okay as many of their MacBooks have been shipped with 4GB and I had not noticed any issues from the people that used them but I find the Mac Mini sluggish. The CPU is great and never reaches max but I find it difficult to run chrome etc. because the RAM is always at max.

I still have my iPhone 5s, works great, four years after it first came out and running a buggy beta. Of course, high performance things like snapchat's ar, etc still take a few seconds to start, but then work well. You can get this phone for about $150-$200 and it works great. @helloworld and @AleCx04 are right, apples stuff lasts.

@calmyourtities I paid $250 for the Moto 5 Plus. Specs are close to that of the iPhone 6, and it's going to be updated since it's a 2017 device. If it's 2017 and I have to pick a device, I'd lean more towards the Moto since it's new. But that's my personal opinion. (And opinions are like arm pits; we've all got some and they stink. 😂😂)

@jhh2450 from what I hear android is unoptimized enough that it needs better hardware than apple for the same performance. Don't know if it's true, but it's believable considering that the compilation process for android apps are java->jar->dex then if you don't stop at dex it goes dex->odex->elf

@calmyourtities as an Android fanboy, you're right. Android isn't optimized well. Using an iPhone 7+ for work alongside my personal Nexus 6P (1 generation/year different, I know) and the iPhone flies... For certain things. Battery is amazing, loading apps is snappy, etc. But the Nexus is so much more usable to me - easier settings, better to type on, better camera, better multitasking, notifications actually work... I wish I could have best of both worlds.

@bytewave-fan yeah, nice setup. The way I see it, apple can't do much with iOS because they have to maintain their customers, while google knows whatever they do with android, most people will stay with it. Android users generally have something against apple, either it being to expensive or the customizability or something, so if google wants to add an experimental feature, track each and every action of their consumer, etc, they're probably staying with android.

@Jop- do you have any *liable* evidence to support your claim?

@rc5-asdf Sammy still makes some laptops and based on reviews, they're pretty damn good. Expensive, but so is Apple. Don't own one personally, so I can't attest to any of that tho

@calmyourtities accurate, to a point... I think Apple's got to do something to keep their customers around now that Samsung, LG, and Google are going the minimum-bezel/maximum-screen route. The iPhone X might do that, for a grand, but the iPhone 8/8+ are now the redheaded stepchild and look shitty compared to competition. They're still fast, good battery, wireless charging, good camera... Great, but what about that ugly old design?!

@Jop- no, I wouldn't really consider that malware. And I think a water gun in one font could be a real gun in another, it's fine by me. I see no reason how you could be so enraged by the font of an emoji. Apple didn't want guns in their text, I don't see it as a big deal.
