@Cyanide try Arch, Gentoo and Slackware!

Try Manjaro if you are up for a system that is based on Arch that comes with many bells and whistles :) for a good learning experience go with Arch itself and get you a customized install. If you want to achieve wizard status play with Gentoo and if you want to achieve the ultimate level of Linux mastery try Linux From Scratc(neckbeard included) or you can always settle for a nice minimal Ubuntu based distro that is efficient and does not get in your way like Linux Lite.

Distro hopping is just a synptom of a lack in research.

I researched linux distros for about 2 weeks until I decided to use manjaro. Been using it for months now without ever hopping.

My friends however have hopped about 3 times each because they don't do their research.

So for breakfast I have a strong black Kali, then a good Arch with pieces of gnome for lunch and some debian for dinner. Sometimes at night I sneak into wifi and have gentoo as snack.

That said I'm quiet healthy though.

But seriously I'm using Manjaro now after I screwed my Arch once a day before an important appointment. I installed Manjaro because it's similar to arch so I felt at home but faster to install. No bigger problems since then.

I am liking distro hopping. It's interesting to see all these different takes on Linux.

Depends on the purpose of the said machine.
If it's not an all purpose home PC with lots of applications it's easy to switch a distro and quickly set it up.
