@AndSoWeCode I don't care if it is destructive. MS does shady shit, I don't want to support.
https://stallman.org/microsoft.html -
I’m not a fan of most MS stuff, but I didn’t let that stop me trying typescript.
I really like it, it’s a much more solid language.
... also pretty sure you can use angular with Javascript, since it gets transpiled anyway -
@Scrumplex that's kind of a bullshit article you posted.
The same can be said by pretty much all commercial platforms out there.
Non-free? Is Mac OS free? Is the operating system on ALL OF TODAY'S SMARTPHONES with factory settings open source and free?
No. That's just pathetic whining, to justify an irrational hatred that does no good to anybody.
Same goes for censorship, suing for patents, and complying with demands from the country they're activating in.
And somehow a subscription tax that offers cheaper licenses translated into extortion? Only tinfoil hat idiots could equate one to the other.
You can hate TypeScript for many reasons, like because it's an additional layer of complexity on an otherwise simple language.
But if you hate TypeScript just because laptop manufacturers decided that it's cheaper for consumers to pay a fee per unit sold, than to sell more expensive licenses, then that doesn't say much about your intellect, does it? -
@AndSoWeCode
It is not an argument, that because most things are closed source, it is good.
If I want an open source phone: Buy a custom-rom friendly phone, install LineageOS, dont install GAPPS, use F-Droid. There you have your fully open-source OS.
Why do I need to pay extra for my laptop, if I don't use Windows? The first thing I do with new devices is installing a Linux distro.
It is called boycotting. If you don't like a tech-company, don't use their products.
I am happy to see Windows loosing market share. You can see how MS tries to save their other products, but I'm sure, that the executives at MS know, that Windows will not survive long. -
@AndSoWeCode btw. Richard Stallman is the founder of GNU. In today's society some would say he wears a tinfoil hat. His opinions are pretty extreme, but I like that.
-
@Scrumplex "Why do I need to pay extra for my laptop, if I don't use Windows?" - you don't pay extra. You pay the nominal price, plus the VAT.
The manufacturer chooses to reduce the price of 95% of sold laptops by slightly increasing the price of 5% of the laptops. The manufacturer has the option to do that, which is freakin' great even if it's far from 95%.
Is it unfair for the competition of Microsoft? It would be, if there were any. The only competition is Apple, and they have their own hardware. Should Apple be sued for pre-installing and charging for their software on that hardware? -
@Scrumplex "It is called boycotting. If you don't like a tech-company, don't use their products." - that's some neo-hipster trend right there.
Boycotting a free, open product, because you don't like something done by someone completely unrelated to that product, except for the name of the imaginary entity that they associate with. -
@AndSoWeCode it is still managed by MS. The maintainers are MS employees. Same with VSCode. And again, "neo-hipster trend" is nothing bad.
-
@Scrumplex it is bad when it's irrational. It's irrational when it doesn't have any constructive effect.
A company is just an imagined thing. It doesn't exist in real life. Products exist. If you hate on good and bad products just because they are all under a single imaginary umbrella, then you should probably hate on everything, and do nothing good. And what's the effect if all people behaved like that? Potentially good products are going to fail, and people are going to blame "the evil company" again, and are going to wonder why the world is such shit. -
620hun81887y@Scrumplex you shouldn't buy a laptop with Windows if you're going to overwrite it anyway. Plenty of choices with Linux or FreeDOS
-
You can buy laptops with Linux installed. They're harder to find maybe but whether or not Windows is installed is entirely up to the manufacturer....not MS
