So I've mentioned that I work in a lingerie store. I'm not ashamed of it, as I make good enough money for a 19 year old living at home and it allows me to spend my free time learning dev technologies and practices while I try to decide on a career. Not to mention I have more bras and panties then I'll ever need, so there's that...

But sometimes when I sit here watching my customers, talking to them, measuring them for bras... I just want to set the store on fire. I never would, of course. I generally like helping these women and talking g to people. Yet sometimes I feel like I am wasting away. Like a little part of my soul dies when I sell some things to some girl while I have a Linux distro download at home waiting for me. Ugh.

Anyway, this is just some pointless venting from me. As you were.

    When I was 19 I earned money by mixing spices in a spice factory and laying down insulation on a roof at some warehouse construction. It's normal 😄

    This, is what I call a rant

    I'm 19 too, but I'm all day in uni

    I, too, was a salesman. From 9AM to 9PM, sitting in a dead wing of a supermarket, selling phones. Nobody wanted to buy phones at a god damned supermarket. How do you think that made me feel, huh? And then some customer approached and started asking questions about equipment. In that excitement that I was showing stuff, another asshole went to my desk and stole all my things.
    It got better, I sold a lot of stuff, made a lot of money, went out with friends, all fine.
    Frankly miss it a bit.

    I wonder if you'll miss your underwear days when you're flooded with deadlines and bug tickets.

    If I could go back to my 19 year old self Is tell him not to be in such a rush to become an adult. This "being an adult" is severely overrated.

    Being able to support yourself with a job that seems ok for the most part, while having the freedom to develop your coding skills, is a pretty good situation to be in, for the most part.

    At some point all that stuff ends and you're pretty much forced to go be an adult. At that point, you discover other benefits to go with the burden of it all.

    That's also pretty much when you realise that you didn't need to be in such a hurry before adulting was thrust on you.

    Never ever tell, that you are young in the net, because every 23+ "mature" will come in comments to tell you obvious things

    @Lahsen2016 you think I am offended? Not at all lol. I am just getting frustrated with mundane work and need to start deciding what to do with my life. You didn't upset me in the least ❤️
  • 2
    @AndSoWeCode maybe, but selling underwear can't be the end for me lol
  • 2
    @AlexDeLarge I'm not apologizing for it at all. I just frustrated myself with the struggle of being a relatively carefree kid with wanting to be a productive adult working in tech.
  • 3
    I think another part of the frustration is that the more I learn when I am home studying, the more I feel like my job is mind numbing.
  • 2
    It's just funny to me because when I first got this job in high school I was so happy because I live shopping lol. Now I'm over it.
  • 3
    @Alice I'd measure you for a bra but @Cyanite would kill me!
  • 2
    @AlexDeLarge I don't mind the preaching. That's why I posted this rant. To get insight from older people who have been there already.
  • 3
    Please don't kill me @Cyanite!
  • 1
    @MissDirection I'm happy to swap! 😁

    You heard him @Cyanite... kill @AlexDeLarge first!

    @MissDirection

    Shush! I like swords. XD
    Seriously, read my profile. ;P

    @Cyanite I have! I have a katana, and my dad has a bunch of various blades.
  • 1
    @MissDirection

    Katana, not my thing. Even though a wooden sparing Katana is all I have out atm (I also have a steel short sword in storage that I made when I was going through a Blacksmithing Phase) I would like to buy more, I have some picked out, but I need money! I worked my ass of for my mom for $100, and she took back every dollar for "expenses". x.x So I guess I'm back to making $11/mo through my Patreon..

    Anyways, here's the main sword I want.. It's either $500 or $600, I forget.. Or maybe I'm entirely wrong. It's by kultofathena.com

    @Cyanite wow that's awesome and huge and pointy!
  • 2
    @MissDirection

    It's specifically a lighter, anti-armor sword. But it //should// still cut well. Though, not as well as a heaver sword with a wider blade.

    @runfrodorun

    I prefer rawstyle. :x

    (couldn't resist)
  • 4
    @Cyanite I like European style blades because my dad has some, but to be true to my roots I want one of these
  • 3
    @runfrodorun blacksmithing looks hard as fuck...
  • 3
    @busuu NY originally lol, but I am half Japanese and my mom is from Japan.
  • 4
    @MissDirection

    I did an apprenticeship under a blacksmith some years ago.. Its not as difficult as it looks, but it's also not a walk in thr park. It takes money, and awareness. Not to mention a steady hand.
  • 4
    @Cyanite and can just see myself smashing my hand with a hammer 😂
  • 2
    @MissDirection lol

    Check out my latest rant, you might get a kick out of it. [geek alert] *shrugs*

    I am 20, I spend my entire day in the college, even though I am doing Engineering,I am forced to waste my time in writing assignments and journals. I get no fucking practical stuff to do!! Upon that I dont earn any money !!
    Its the most fucking frustrating thing in the world ! I am going through a big existential crisis due to all the shit.

    P.s.- while I am typing this,I am reading my book about server management in Rhel,cause I have a 'theory' paper in some time 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦
  • 2
    @catintroholic I can relate how frustrating it is, atleast it is for me.
  • 1
    @MissDirection, do you think you'll want to get a dev job one day or will it always be a hobby?
  • 3
    This is really interesting to read, everyone who thinks Devs or programmers are all the same should read this
  • 3
    @catintroholic Yea, especially the 100 posts in the middle about katanas and other random shit 😄
