Security rant ahead, you have been warned!
As part of a scholarship application, our government requires a scan/copy of the applicant's credit card. Since the IBAN is now on the back, you have to send both sides.
The back is also where the CVC (security code) is. Any bank will strictly tell you NOT TO EVER SHARE IT - not even with them!
To make things even more fun, you now have the option to send this over email which is, of course, NOT ENCRYPTED!!!!!
I'm basically sending all the info needed to steal all my money over an unencrypted connection to an underpaid secretary, who will print it out and leave it on their desk for anyone with decent binoculars to see.
These people are fucking insane!!!!

    ouch...
    1) why the fuck do they need a copy of the credit card? and since when does a credit card have an IBAN?
    2) whould they mind if you censor the CVC code?
    3) where are you from? :D

@scroach Hallo! (that's about the extent of my knowledge of German :D)
    1) The best I could come up with is that they want the scan to confirm I really own the account.
The IBANs are printed on all cards tied to an account (including my prepaid Visa, somehow), although I think this is rather new.
    2) I blacked it out and they didn't seem to mind, but I talked to about 20 other applicants and none of them even noticed it was there.
Most didn't even know what and how important it was.

random guy: "hey can you tell me your cvc code?"

random guy: "oh its just on the back of your credit card"
    derp: "oh sure.. 123"
random guy: "and the credit card numbr too pls"
    derp: *gives card nr*
derp: "hey why u need that anyway?"

You know whats really crazy? Some big banks that I integrate with dont even check the CVV.. or the anything else.

They will literally only check if the number is actually valid and that the expiry is not before this month. Thats it. No address checking, no name checking, no CVV checking.

Payments guys, how this shit hasn't fallen over and exploded yet is beyond me.

@D--M Amazon doesn’t use CVV/CVC, they pay a higher transaction fee though

@scroach you still need an expiration date anyway :D

I do not understand why the CVC is printed onto the card. I mean losing the card or get it stolen without immediate notice is a nice present for the new owner.
I mean debit cards in Germany have a secret 4 digit code and that is of course not printed onto the card. So why on hell does a credit card come with all data you need?

    @MrThompson
The idea was more for card not oresent transactions. Its suppose to verify you atleast have the card physically rather then just typing in numbers (which mind you, is easy as fuck)
