I've got Android studio on an Intel atom N2600 1.6 GHz with 2 GB RAM and a Samsung 120GB SSD all on Xubuntu 32 bit.
It runs surprisingly snappy. The code editor doesn't lag which I wasn't expecting since even notepad++ used to lag when I had Windows 7 starter edition. The gradle build takes some time but not much (~1 minutes for the template apps). I've never tried AVD on it though.
It's an Acer Aspire One if anyone here remembers the days of the netbooks.
I've only replaced the HDD for an SSD.

@avalanche SSD. That is where the swiftness comes from.

*Sets unlock screen to use vim keybindings, but it doesn't start in insert mode*

Thinking about this, would vim be a good lock screen? 'Exit vim to unlock your computer'
