@projektaquarius Depends on how you block it. They've all received the data collection code in their updates. I have heard that windows 10 bypasses the hosts file to phone home at least.

@Jop- nope worse. He refused to release the mac hardware design to developers outside of mac, leading to everything being proprietary at a time when mac was the only provider for personal computers. So he prevented companies from ever coming into existence. And Gates didn't necessarily do that, he would buy companies that did great things to bring them under the Microsoft label or create something similar which is capitalism 101.

Okay, I really hate Apple, and Microsoft almost as much. I too hate the freedom to control your own OS, and see how it works. And I think Apple's practice of attempting to make its average users as stupid and powerless as possible is rediculous. I don't think there's much left to be said about data collection. If you can't give me full control and transparency, it isn't okay. Bullshit about anonymisation is not enough.
However, I don't see the need to bash Bill Gates or Steve Jobs personally. I don't understand why people think that they were somehow aiming to create their respective products for the good of everyone. They both employed cunty practices to try and grow a business. Not everybody is some sort of tech crusader, trying to improve the industry and help people with every step.
I think the things Gates has done after he succeeded in growing Microsoft to its current size are great. After it had grown to be as successful as it is, start to give money and support the industry. -
@th31 I understand why many people dislike Macs, but personally it would take something really good to make me switch.
In the end, with all my apple products, my reasons for using them come down to four things. Consistency, beauty, reliability, and _lack_ of infinite customizability.
Consistency. macOS and iOS are very consistent. Nearly all apps use similar control schemes, and it’s never hard to learn the keys for new apps.
Beauty. One of Apple’s main selling points is the elegance of their design.
Reliability. I’ve had my MBP for five years and have yet to break it physically or in software.
_Lack_ of infinite customizability. If I got that kind of customizability I would never stop getting distracted by the knobs and would never get anything done. Plus I’d forget what knobs I’d twiddled and how so it would be in vain.
If someone could give me a prebuilt linux box that had all this, I’d take pause and consider moving to linux. Until then, I’m using a Mac. -
I just want to add this - if you use Windows - you absolutely must use a pirated version.
First of all it's the epitome of human stupidity to pay for such software.
Secondly, you don't get the spyware updates.
Also I'm using a pirated version of Win7 on my desktop PC for 7~ years already and wireshark shows zero unexpected / unauthorized attempts to send any packets.
PS. I use Linux on my work machines. Windows is only for gaming :) -
@thecodewarrior It sounds like you haven't heard about Hammerspoon. Mac is very much customizable. Maybe not on the low level of things, but if you want to, you can customise even more than you probably can on Windows

@thecodewarrior Those are all perfectly good points, and I'm not going to dislike anyone for liking macs. I don't even hate them myself, my hate is directed almost entirely towards Apple themselves, not the people who use their products.
There are many of your points that I find perfectly applicable to Linux, but I am not going to attempt to convert you.
Use what you like, I even use Windows sometimes. -

If it's any use to you, I've distro hopped around a bit and also enjoy the easy life of things just working, and I currently love Manjaro. Everything in my laptop worked straight away, and it seems very stable, I've had no issues so far at least.
With the wake of some rants shouting at Linuxers who express their opinion in a considered to be very not good way, I decided to make such a rant. Not to be annoying but because, although I get that fanboyism in that way isn't even good in MY opinion, I do think that one should be able to express their opinion.
But, If you'd like to express your opinion, I think you at least should do that with some good arguments. Not everyone might agree with those arguments but hey, that's the point of opinions sometimes :)
I don't hate windows/mac for being windows or mac. Nope.
I hate the systems for not giving the user freedom to do what they wish with the system but more importantly, for integrating their users in worlds biggest mass surveillance program AND on top of fucking that, not giving peoples the option to look at the source code aka at what's ACTUALLY going on in the system. Next to that, Windows 10's data collection is officially not legal in the netherlands so don't even try justifying their fucking data slurping.
Of course there's a chance that they don't contain any bad stuffs but since the Snowden revelations I don't trust those commercial companies anymore on their 'blue' eyes.
Yeah, I've ranted about this before, I know, felt like doing it again in combination with my reason above. I also know that I will probs receive hate for this but oh well, i'm used to that by now.
So yeah, windows and osx: go fuck yourself.
