@linuxxx Joke? I don't see how this can be implemented without the tracking cookie and for that the pages have to have atleast a facebook like button.
-
Frits167yNot sure if they can outright read your browsing history, but they track you through the "like" buttons on almost every site.
There's more to them than just sharing or liking a page. -
@JoshBent Yeah I meant that, apologies for the confusion!
So corrected version: for every site you visit with any sort of fb tracker, this visit will be sent to Facebook. -
Froot75397y@Artemix No they can't.
You can't read a users history from JS.
You might be able to read history about your site but not on any other site. -
lo98be6177yAt work I have to use Facebook Pixel
wich evaluates the analytics
sigh
it loads a 1*1px image trough a post request that embeds all the data it could possibly get
My more-than-a-suspect is that fb gets a lot more data from the browsers than what they give us and that they use it for their tracking -
mundo0349117yHave you seen those like or share buttons on the pages you visit?
That is how social media know where you are.
You can block then thought, there id a filter list for social media buttons that work on any adblocker -
Froot75397y@Artemix Okay. You're talking about the tin foil hat stuff. I was talking about how browsers and JS works.
As in, I can't go and write a piece of JS that reads your entire browsing history when you visit my site. It's just not possible. -
Well even though Facebook says that they don't do it they track you with all those share on fb buttons even after you've logged out...
-
How long until they tell you "The system automatically declined your insurance request or loan or anything really"
I feel like no search engine or anything respects the "PRIVACY" of the end user
Also I got an app that blocks tracking (10+ on youtube and any other site with fb share links) not to mention the ones it isn't able to detect... -
@Artemix still getting targeted ads all the time
Become a dev in 7 days on fb
using DuckDuckGo for the past 5 months
idk I just cant feel a difference -
@Artemix I have the adblock plus and privacy badger too
still when I search with DDG I get targeted ads on facebook for things I search on DDG
which makes no sense but still happens quite a lot -
@JoshBent no clue. I've been a ddger since the beginning and when I still used Facebook I've never had search query related ads. Ddg uses ads but you can turn those off and they state very clearly how they process that stuff.
On the other hand, you have to fine tune privacy badger. I've seen that it takes a while to block things like google analytics automatically. That's why I always block stuff by hand in privacy badger from the beginning so that it learns faster. -
@linuxxx I'll check if I've done that even though I'm pretty sure I did
still that's very close to unacceptable -
It's called the Facebook pixel.
Websites can put it on there website and it basically checks if fb know you, then depending on what you did on the site and what the marketing guys set as rules, you'll get targeted ads.
(no, Facebook is not reading your browser history...) -
Facebook and their ads are so powerful, but most of people are blind... I do not use Facebook, I search only with DDG, block ads, I have Ghostery installed and this piece of shit company still knows everything. I just open Instagram on my phone and personalised ads for stuff I have searched on desktop or whatever appear... It even dont care if I use VPN on PC and not on mobile. Wtf.... how can I defend from this?

Ok this is freaking creepy. I searched for information about login systems on other websites for some time. Not once did I touch Facebook. Then Facebook show me targeted ads when I hoped on 30 minutes later. How the heck does Facebook get that data in the first place? I'm starting to get pissed that my data is just handed out to everyone, even by search engines.
