Okay soooo.... I have this laptop that I use a little less often but is bugging me about. So WINDOWS just decides to RAMP UP THE HARD DRIVE TO ALL HELL WHENEVER I NEED TO USE IT.

I have a few options:
- Replace the 1TB 5400RPM with a 120GB SSD and do Linux
- Replace the 1TB with the 120GB and do a fresh install of Windows
- Replace Windows with Linux, keeping the 1TB
- or reinstall Windows

Which do you suggest and why?

Replace the DVD drive with the hdd and add ssd in place of the hdd.

    And put Linux.

Windows doesn't fit on a 120GB that well. My father is using one and it's full 24/7 with the least programs installed.

You could try disabling Search and Superfetch, if you're okay with slower searches? My HDD would stay at 100% till I disabled those two. Pretty smooth now.
