Apple, which dumb fuck thought this would be good? ok new mouse, no more batteries it can be charged on a wire, cool you may think, until it actually needs charging and you discover that the charging port is on the bottom, making the mouse unusable whilst charging!!!

I laugh every time I see that setup πŸ˜…

    @theuser i’m not laughing.

It's simple, its a wireless mouse and Apple want that to be obvious.
They don't want people plugging it in a continuing to use it, making it look look any other mouse ;-)
    Your usability is secondary.
  • 7
@ThomasRedstone they managed to do it with the wireless keyboard, you can use it whilst charging.
  • 16
@bshayhoe and what do you do if it suddenly turns off in the middle of a working day? just go home and charge overnight?
Apple should've thought this before doing it. The good thing this mouse last for a month or so on daily usage but takes time to recharge, luckily at work I have a spare mouse

Thing is, a lot of people (including myself) are really bad at remembering to charge their stuff and so it needs to be as easy and obvious as possible.

I've seen some wireless mice come with a docker where you simply pop it in. That's a better solution than having to insert a charging cable. If that's not an option, then at least let them use the damn thing as a wired mouse. Apple has a tendency to dictate how we use their products, but this is a fail in terms of practicality.
  • 3
@bshayhoe Yes thats not a problem, but i hat a warning this morning that it was low, ten minutes later it was dead. managed to get some juice in to it whilst making coffee and reading devRant.
  • 4
That's definetely the most annoying thing about Apple stuff. It's simply STUPID to put charging port at the bottom of the mouse! Man, even if they don't want us to use mouse while charging, the mouse simply doesn't stay quite stable in that position...
  • 7
It's funny for 2 reasons, 1 there were lot of similar mouse before apple, even done in the proper way... 2 apple fans trying to defend apple anyway and assuming that apple is always right :)
  • 6
Given them a break. They spent tremendous hours and energy to design the perfect mouse. Can't spoil it with a 'hole' on the surface right?
  • 7
Maybe you need to buy a second one to use whilst the first is charging.
  • 3
It's hilarious but also sad at the same time
  • 4
Good thing, u can see the Apple Logo, oh wait no also not goodπŸ˜‚
  • 3
@codumke it's to show up the shiny bitten apple logo that you buy apple stuff no?
  • 2
@StefanH it just warns me when it is at 2% usually it's at beginning of the day unfortunately
  • 2
Does it not take like 10 mins to charge?
  • 3
Apple wants to sell you 2 mice. So you can use while the other one is charging
  • 3
It tells you days before that it should be charged. Grab a coffee and you’re good for the rest of the day. Charge it during lunch and it will last for weeks. Quit whining.

it's so funny read comments, if someone rants about apple ... and than imagine the same rant and comments if it was about MS
  • 6
Hmmmmm first world problem, in the mean time, I gotta finish this scala program on this illegal version of windows XP, otherwise there's no chicken soup tonight.

    !related

I prefer wired input devices and wired earphones over wireless devices except phone. I don't really like the wires and strings. I just want a less hassle life without batteries and charging. 😁 oh and the cost πŸ˜‹

First time my dad got that mouse (he's an Apple fanboy, unlike me), I just saw that and laughed.
  • 3
U don't understand! This is apple redefining technology
  • 3
@mrlinnth me too, all wired to my monitor and than one usb-c cable to my Dell XPS :)
  • 2
Hahahaha the mouse was unusable in the first place the piece of shit is defective and only has one button
  • 1
Great! More justification for my dislike of apple.
  • 1
    *whilst* πŸ˜‚
  • 2
You basically have to buy a second one to use while the first one charges, apple marketing at it's finest -.-'
  • 3
It's so lovely to read apple fans comments
  • 3
@cypherPunk It is clearly shit to have to stop work to charge it, when a little more effort in the design could have resulted in a functioning mouse while charging, just like it is with their new keyboard. it doesn’t warn you, like the old battery one used to. i had about ten minutes warning. i think its a valid rant so FU.

Dev: Sir, we have a problem. The mouse doesn’t work well when we use it while charging. Deadline’s round the corner.

The guy incharge of product design: Hmm, I can think of a quick fix here. Let’s design it in a way that they couldn’t use it while charging.

The guy incharge of product: Great idea for iMouse 1 !!!!!

We've all seen this one, beautiful.
  • 2
I had a long think about this one day and my conclusion is that they did it that way so that people wouldn't leave the mouse plugged in all the time while they use it. That might be hard on the battery or something. Ultimately, who knows.
  • 2
@Jop- tim cok on surface: "You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but those aren't going to be pleasing to the user." ... few uears later ipad "pro" XD
  • 2
@Jop- not to mention some of us need the flexibility of the pen and touch screen in a tablet form factor while also needing some regular applications that have hardware level access. Apps can only go so far
  • 2
Another issue besides the charging port is the size of it. It’s to small in terms of height compared to other wireless mouses out on the market and it doesn’t fit well in hands while trying to use it.
  • 2
@KiloBitMore never had a problem with that, I took a closer look with ergonomics in mind, and still can’t find an issue with the size?
  • 2
@helloworld I’m comparing Logitech mouses to this one.
  • 1
@helloworld I’ll provide an image showing what I mean when I can.
  • 2
@KiloBitMore logitech and Microsoft are really good
  • 2
@KiloBitMore But you did say it doesn’t fit well in the hand while trying to use it.
  • 1
@dontbeevil the only good thing to come from Microsoft are the mice.
  • 3
@helloworld it seems to me like Apple designed it for someone who only has a thumb, index and middle finger to use. When I use it I don’t know what to do with my ring, and pinky finger cause it’s not high enough to get a good grip.

    It’s probably just me haha.
  • 2
@KiloBitMore nope, but haters gonna hate, nothing changed since 90s stereotypes
  • 1
It's to keep the form factor... Make it more aerodynamic for when you inevitably throw it through a window in an angry rage.
  • 1
Plug it in, get up, take a piss, sit down, un plug, battery last rest of day.

Plug it in, get up, eat lunch, sit down, un plug, battery last rest of the week.

Plug it in, get up, go home, go work, sit down, un plug, battery lasts rest of the month.

Stupid design, yeah sure. At least it wont be plugged in all the time to ruin the battery
  • 1
@CurseMeSlowly Well said, i am the same
  • 1
One month on and the bastard mouse has run out of juice, I had a 10 minute warning. Now out of action till it charges. At least i can have a breakπŸ‘πŸΌ
  • 3
@JohnDoesNot Yeah everyone should adjust their schedule around a fucking mouse charging solution even though Apple is clearly autistic when it comes to those (how do you charge the pencil?).

I own a Razer Orochi 2013, it's wireless (Bluetooth), has 2x removable AA batteries and an awesome braided cable you can plug in at any time and it concerts the mouse into a normal wired one (it has a cool dock style ending so it completely fills the gap under the wheel).

I get that it does nothing to post this here since Apple doesn't care and it won't magically fix itself, but this is what this site is about.

@Jellyg00se What is this one button shit you speak of? may have been true 20 years ago.
