I've looked into it, shapeways has some full color sandstone 3d printing that produces really nice looking cartoon characters. Was planning on doing a test run, see how much work it will be to translate 2d avatar style to 3d models

You could probably just create an API that combines different pre-made models into one.. Say, *this* hair model, and *this* shirt..

Then allow people to download their models, or buy straight through you.

I really want to do this but can't use 3D models :(((
