@Torbuntu
obviously you've never used android studio, if you don't know what's wrong with it. -
@Torbuntu
it's basically some shit that google made that was pretty good in the beginning and it was quite fast....
but then they fucked it up. it's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo buggy I swear to god. Don't even get me started on how fucking slow it is. -
obviously you two have never had a problem with the slow ass piece of garbage called Gradle, which eats up 99.99999999% of my RAM (which is 8gb, and I have to close every single other application I have running) and then still takes like 3 minutes to fucking finish. THE EMULATOR HOLY SHIT. That thing is garbage, they must have given up on that thing half way. never got it to start within 30 mins. Then you see apple with this amazing emulator they have. it's really quite amazing how Google thought it was ok to have in its current state.
-
@Torbuntu
bro like honestly you wanna rub off some of that luck onto me?
to run an empty activity, I gotta plug in my phone( cause wtf is this emulator I just use my usb debugging shit on my phone) and honestly it takes anywhere from 30seconds to 3minutes on a bad day -
@Torbuntu
I'd show you my event log, but unfortunately I had closed AS, so I could run sketch.. kms -
@Torbuntu
I guess that makes a difference, if I was running windows (which is honestly a slow ass piece of shit, but that's for another day) but I run Mac. -
@Torbuntu
it may be, but honestly compared to like xCode and Eclipse, Android studio is not the way to go. Should've stuck with learning swift. -
AitorDB277yNo problems to me neither, I have 16GB, I use 8GB on gradle config and it just need a few seconds to build (and I have a lot of apps opened, chrome, lollypop, telegram...)
-
alxnns1607yAndroid Studio is much better than Eclipse in my experience, and I run AS five on a win10 machine with 8gb ram with multiple chrome tabs open and i get no slow down
-
@Haxk20
I don't run linux bro, I have before but I just really don't like their setup and not many people develop for Linux, compared to windows and Mac. Mac has a lot of software for development, as does Windows(but not as much) -
@alxnns1
I'm not talking about opening safari or chrome, I'm talking about like idk about you but I run Spotify and sketch at the same time when I run AS cause I need sketch to make images and background, and Spotify... take a guess. -
you guys must be professional developers or some shit, I just code as a hobby (plus I'm a ninth grader with not a lot of time...damn SAT's) I have had so many issues with android studio over the past 3 years, like honestly it can't even import shit in these xml files I HAVENT EVEN OPENED/ OR EDITED. I actually go through stack overflow everyday to find solutions to problems that shouldn't even be there. Then I see Apple who actually like puts time and effort into their software for developers, and Google, they honestly could do so much better, especially a year ago when the condition of android studio was absolute fucking garbage
-
Seeing as there's a lot of people who don't have problems, perhaps it's the user and not the software?
Don't get asshurt please, I'm joking. -
@jhh2450
don't worry man I'm not like that, but honestly there's a shit ton of people who have similar problems as me. -
alxnns1607yI've had multiple AS projects open, multiple tabs in Chrome, Spotify, Skype and discord all open and it still ran fine, no one else seems to have the same problem...
-
@Torbuntu
honestly I've spent too much time on this now... I was just looking for a break from working on this damn project I'm making.. -
Well it has gotten better with the current release. But I can understand the frustration with it. It has its pros and cons. If it makes you feel better just think that you do not have to go through Eclipse! Now that was a painful experience! Not because eclipse is bad, it is actually pretty great, but back in the day? Maaaaaan

They took Intellij, which was already a bloated monstrosity of an IDE, and modified it with lota of even more bloated Android tweaks and features.
I can't say I like it, but it's pretty much the onky option for Android development. -
@coolguy101 The emulators are only slow if they are not hardware accelerated. make sure you've set it up correctly.
-
suprano38147yLol this was me when I first started using Android studio. But it's actually been better now. I do feel you on that Gradle build though. It can take quite some time but above all, it's much better now. Which version of Android studio are you on?
-
Ederbit7267yI feel you. Android Studio takes up a lot of ram. (Windows User) For android emulation i use genymotion, but apparently > AStudio 3.0 the built in emulator is pretty good.
I just installed another 8gig module in my laptop. I now have 16GB 😁 Now I don't have to worry about ram issues anymore. I also think my gradle builds got faster -
htlr51307yYea android studio sometimes goes ultra slow gradle building if the project is huge, its mostly because of the dependencies but overall the performance and the ability to get hold on to the development in that IDE even for beginners is super awesome!! And dare not to tell linux ain't no platform for development. 😂
-
I was developing for Android before we even had Android Studio - believe me, you should be glad to have it.
I still believe you what your deceiving of course. It shouldn't be like that. -
First off, you need to calm down. Getting frustrated never helps.
As far as gradle builds go, it's possible to have really long build times, if you happen to do a wrong setup. There is a google talk on yt and a guide that can help you with that. Nevertheless, using latest gradle 3.0.0 improved build speeds by a lot.
Emulator can be basically unusable, if you don't use correct image and hardware acceleration. -
kubre17077y@coolguy101 Linux is for Devs I'm using it from last 3 years for Dev purposes only time I required windows when I need unreal to run
-
gnaaah9837y@flightcode Compared to AS Xcode is worse atm. Buggy autocomplete, even with small projects, lagging IB... You can say anything about AS, but with that IDE you can actually get things done.
-
@qbalsdon
have, never understood, especially with my understanding of java, I just compare everything to java and that just screws me up...it's impossible for me to understand swift. -
5 minutes for gradle to build an empty activity, with an image view (which btw crashed my app, I don't know why but I can't seem to get this damn image onto the screen without it crashing the application....pls someone help, I'm bouta smash this laptop.)
-
@suprano
holy shit man, I just updated, and this looks a hell lot better....tf have I been missing out on... -
@jAsE
you don't understand, I was on android 2.3.3
I'm now at 3.something I forget now fck that shit
thats like a shit ton I missed, and I was just getting used to how 2.3.3 was. -
suprano38147y@coolguy101 you have to stay updated with the Google Dev team and Android Studio haha. Buy yeah, 3.0 is out and got to know about it via the team on G+
-
Lenodroid17yHell yeah I can confirm that. The Device Emulator is just a piece of shit. I don't know why but on some other Computer it works just perfect but on my Laptop (8GB RAM, I5 6200U, GTX 950M, SSD) it's just slow as f***. I tried everything but it still slow as F***. I had to buy an extra Android Phone just for the debugging and so on since I didn't want to fu** up my mains phone battery. And OMG gradle I hate that piece of shit so much it really eats all the ram and also slows down the Computer so Fu***** down that you start thinking you are running on a Intel Pentium 4.
-
pps83667yYes, Android Studio is epic pile of turd. Xcode is nice, but nothing comes even close to visual studio. Even if you take some 10 year old version.
-
Whoever project managed Android Studio should clean all the streets of NY with a toothbrush. There is nothing, I mean nothing, more painful than clicking and waiting for few minutes for response, errors popping up, screen freezing. There are laws against harassment which could even result in prison sentence, this AS shit is million time worse. They should put the developer in prison for life. I don't care how grate this app is. It is like buying a Ferrari and having to stop every 30 second, change the tiers and go at 1 km/h and do a service at every 500 meters. This is worst than Chinese torture. Being glued to your seat, having to meet a deadline and this shit is torturing and laughing at you. I really miss being a monkey and live in wild. This confirms to me the we heading towards the Dooms day.
-
omahtengah05ystill being shit even today,
try to open your old project 1 year back. and you will get bunch of dependencies failure,
deprecated methode, etc, etc.
even if you try to follow online tutorial from their own website, you will get smashed with same problem. they keep changing methode, function, script and other inside their core.
