why don't they like the interns at work? one little mistake, and you're fucked. everyone thinks you weren't a good choice to work on that team. they think if i'm an intern (and especially - a girl) then i'm dumb... like??? honestly, it makes me feel so bad and i myself start to feel like i'm truly dumb :(

@asdf1234 - fix things. This is the only way to balance the negative emotions of being a programmer.

Awh, if thats the case then your coworkers are dumb. To expect much from interns from day one is weird. At our company we have 30 interns. Each came in at different level. Some of them have thought me things as well.
Also if sexism was a thing at our company they would be fired. The techlead is a woman with experience and gives everyone a chance to learn.

Really you are (probably) not dumb. Dumb is when you dont know a thing and dont want to learn it. You being here means most probably that you think you are a dev, and real devs like to learn new things.

So stay strong, you might not have more knowledge then the others (or you might) but you have more social skills for sure.

Intern is kind of a fucked position... Management thinks of you as a cheap worker, that should get done as much and as good as a normal dev and your coworkers dislike you for messing stuff up or being slow as they have requested a "trained" dev to handle all the work.
Don't let yourself down. Do the best you can and learn from your mistakes. Pretty soon your coworkers will value you, when they see your skills improve and you doing your best. Hang in there, it will get better!

Are you sure they think you are dumb? What have they done to show what they think?

hi people! thanks for the support. i wrote that post 39 days ago and today, during my 1-on-1 with my manager she told me that... i'm not an intern anymore, i'm an engineer now! i can't believe this!
