I'm so fucking done with net neutrality. the only ones who want it are verion, comcast, and other big isps.

fuck them.

this is fucking merica. nobody wants it, and this is a government designed for the people. I guess it only works in theory.

the talk about this has been fucking exhausting. how much clearer could it be?

how does it keep coming up? so much of the economy is online. why would congress want this? this should be a fucking fundamental right. no bs, just fast speeds everywhere. i hate all the isps thinking that because the world is so reliant on the internet, they control everything.

isps are a service. that's it.

they're not a profiler or advertiser, just a service.

and if that changes, I'll buy a bunch of flash drives and go offline.

bottom line, we should have privacy, neutrality, and a safe web. fuck those greedy bastards.

I've heard they're supposed to be voting on it for over a year now (and definitely remember it being a thing during Obama's presidency), and still nothing. I'll believe they're voting on it when it actually happens. 🤷🤷

It pisses me off but at the sametime i know its possible to build a darknet to defeat it so even though i have signed the patition if they ignore it i will be looking for like minded devs to make a secure foss subnet

@PerfectAsshole Ping me when this is going to happen. I'd be interested in helping out.

@PerfectAsshole I’m down for foss subnet

@rootshell @DeveloperACE if places start monitoring everybody I'll start an colab on here, don't really want to do it for no reason cause rewriting dns and the ip system into a no knowledge system will be a pain in the ass.

@PerfectAsshole I will try to help out in my free time if I remember :)

    ISP's are not your slaves.
    They are private for-profit business.
They are free to charge their services as they see fit and you as a customer has a choice of paying them for these services or not.

It's immoral to force a private business to do your bidding unless they violated the NAP.

LOUD NOISES! I'm from NZ, this will effect us in a huge way because our government likes to follow America's government for some fucked reason. So before long the entire world will have shit fucked internet and everybody will be on tor or some other shit and everyone will just die probably...

@magentera tor is already broken cause the governments combined already own 50% of the nodes so all traffic on tor is traceable if they wanted to. So no they won't be using tor

@Chlodovechus I understand they're private and for profit, but the service they offer shouldn't be messed with like that. imagine if bottled water companies could put harmful chemicals in their water.

    @calmyourtities
Food and agriculture companies already put chemicals and use GMO produce in their food.

You as a consumer have a choice of growing your own food or buying organic.

And food is an essential resource for humans, unlike internet.

@Chlodovechus without net neutrality you won't have any organic option. internet is really essential now, because it's such a highly used platform. these laws are already in place. there's no reason to change them.
  • 1
@Chlodovechus The problem is not as much in the practice itself (although I consider it problematic), but in the lack of options. I don't know how it is in the US, but in Germany we only have one big ISP which controls the lines (and many small ones which just rent them).

So if that big provider decides to duck with net neutrality there are no alternatives for a big portion of the people.

It's all because the office for cartel control fucked up - usually these kind of monopolies are prevented in the first place (if you only have a few comparable competitors which share the market, they're not allowed to buy each other, for instance).

Actually, I changed my mind. The impact on economy would be pretty bad if we abolished net neutrality, while the impact on customers would still be bearable.
That's why it should be prevent on a juridical level.

@Chlodovechus and government regulations exist to stop private for profit businesses from screwing with the customer when it comes to anti consumer practices and access to basic utilities, of which the Internet is and has been one for years. Don't pretend Internet access is a "nice to have". This is why people will keep opposing. "Vote with your wallet" is useless if you're not vocal about it so that others can understand and follow suit.
