First time installing Linux on desktop, I’ve decided for Arch because I wanna learn. Skimmed through official guide, looks hard.

So exciting, I love computers!

    @Torbuntu agreed...I've got stuck on auto openbox startup but then who needs another login screen :)

    archmerge does it all anyhow. and includes i3, openbox etc as easy switch so as you learn more you just change the env.

    I managed to complete the installation on the third try.

    Any recommendations for a nice looking desktop environment?

    @rc5-asdf
    - bragging rights
    - it's actually really neat, i've been using it longer than my "arch fanboy" phase
    - pacman has a really simplistic syntax

    I use it because it’s advertised as an DIY distro which means I’ll learn a lot.

    I chose GNOME as DE, have yet not decided on a fallback. Been customizing for a few hours and will continue this weekend. It’s so much fun!

    The only reason I'm still running Windows is because of the lack of time I have to install and learn Linux, especially when I'm just trying to do something simple that's quick to do with Windows. But I'm thinking about dual booting it with Windows, how much space do you think I should partition on it? I've got a ~500 GB SSD
