vane11054281dYeah that’s horrible when 5 people look at what you’re trying to do when you see a problem for the first time and have only couple minutes to figure out what to do.
Basically companies look for someone who is able to run a marathon but they interview like they want the best sprinter.
I would like to see companies involved in open source and make open-source actually a place where you hire developers based on contributions.
The current problem for that is that hiring is done usual way because people don’t understand how software is developed in a first place.
So on accounting papers open-source contribution in companies means they’re loosing money where this money already exists in hiring perks and hiring department research.
That’s frustrating but it’s a complex problem to convince people to change their standards. -
ars14054280dReminds me of the story of Google devs that rejected their own applications. Tech interviews are so full of shit, everybody knows it but we just suck it up and pretend that it is normal.

Those infamous whiteboard interviews: As if the pressure of solving complex problems on the spot isn't enough, now I have an audience watching me scribble code like I'm Picasso with a marker.
