    Currently, not a chance.
In 10 years, It might replace some low hanging fruit, but not all.

It's already replaced junior devs in some companies, regardless of if it's ready to. It's a part of the reason why the market is so dry now for junior roles.

LLMs are token manipulators. So are devs. LLMs haven't peaked yet, the larger we make them the more exponential they become. With the massive scale being developed today, the next generation is either going to be fucking insane or we'll find that peak and performance will taper off.

Maybe a metric will be to watch places like Google and their AI offerings. If an amazing AI offering occurs in conjunction with massive layoffs then maybe this is a sign of something big going on internally.

It hasn’t replaced my job but it’s definitely screwing with people’s sanity where I work. Trying to incorporate generative AI in every - single - fucking - thing we do (including retrospectives) is fucking insanity if you ask me

I doubt it in the short to medium term. It’s still in its infancy. But I can see a time where it will provide a significant input that could wipe out the shit end of the stick. It shouldn’t be ignored though.

    A little bit.

I will just write 2 random thoughts - one for each side of the argument

Anti AI: For decaded we have had tools like site-builders. Yet the company stakeholders I work for want a custom site. It’s not just about the end result - it is also about the process - they wanna talk to humans in a dev team.

Pro AI: Stakeholders often do not know exactly what they want so they ask the dev and design team to come up with suggestions for a GUI. This is time consuming. But with AI you could generate 10 variants of an idea for a GUI within second and present it to a stakeholder. This work might take 3 weeks with a human team.

For that kind of throwaway temporary work AI potentially saves the company so much time and money
