Visual Studio Code + Mac = not lightweight, really not that good performance

I mean the battery is burning. Literally, i plug my mac out and after a hour the battery is dead

Sounds more like a battery problem.

Mine can run VS Code very fast for many hours on a charge.

    2015 MBP.

@unity LOL Atom Runs very smooth but vs code is good when plugged in.
My MacBook doesn’t have a battery issue

    Macs are overpriced crap. Seriously.

The only thing good is the OS and imo Linux is comfier.

But eventually I'll have to use a mac because I want to develop for iOS and use good graphic design software

Never had a single problem with it. Might be your battery going to battery heaven

@Chlodovechus overpriced crap? Had my baby running like a champ since 2013 (january that is) with absolutely no problem whatsoever. From mobile to web like a flipping champ man.

If you're not developing for iOS/Mac, or designing a mac is a waste og money.

You can have top notch performence and developing experience when installing Linux on a computer half the price of macs.

The UI/UX of Macs is quite nice, but not worth the money.

Btw, I'll probably buy an iMac soon because I want to develop iOS apps and use design software(already have a very powerful Linux laptop, so macbook is a waste)

@Chlodovechus its not about just the UI/UX. The operating system itself is amazingly stable and powerful. If you are used to Linux (I am too) and appreciate Unix like environments such as BSD then you would probably like the OS as well since it was built around NEXT which was a direct BSD descendant. The system takes the "just works" to a different level and it greatly facilitates mobile and web development. I do not see them as a waste of money since as I stated it has been running all through 2013, we are about to go into 2018 and I have seriously no issues whatsoever. I have used it professionally for PHP, Node, React Native, IOS and Android development as well as Java spring and the system works with no issues with very decent battery life. Main computer, one computer. I also have Arch and Lite installed on two other machines. And a windows laptop.

What about macports/homebrew deoendency hell vs Linux package management?

@Chlodovechus you can treat them the same you would on linux really. I normally do not use them and install my packages through other means. Wanted Rails, used rvm, wanted different node versions used nvm etc etc. The same as I would on linux, the only difference is that i did not relly on pacman etc :) heck you can compile the source code if you so desire. There is oooone complaint tho. Say you are not interested on downloading x code or building ios apps , you still need x code becauase it is the only way to get the build tools that the system needs for some stuff (not all obviously) in which case that kinda sucks. It is a closed wall garden and there is no denying.
