Is there a good alternative to using a MacBook Pro?

I'm in the process of getting new hardware for work.

What for? Does it have to be apple?

There are two main options of varying quality, they're called "Windows" and "Linux", you might have heard of them. Beyond that, instructions unclear, ceiling fan is an option.

@netikras no, I don't have a single apple device. But I just search some long living, reliable and performant laptop.

@atheist I only use Linux atm. My priority is a reliable and performant machine. I am not dogmatic about software.

@Wombat to be honest, I quite like windows (10) for my personal machine, cheaper for comparable hardware and simpler than Linux. Asus Zenbook would be my reccomendation.

But then the same hardware would serve pretty well as a Linux box

Get one of those thick ThinkPads and install Linux on it and you'll be happy.

Whatever you do, don’t go windows.

If your work depends a lot on terminal usage, avoid windows. I use WSL2 and it works, but I always run into small issues with some software because it has to run on windows but uses a lot of the Linux subsystem functionality. You can go ahead and fuck with it until you configure how you want it to work, or you could use Linux. The only reason I have this setup is because I play a ton of video games.
As for hardware, up to you. I like ASUS laptops.

Okay, somehow they managed to make me think they are more reliable. Damn marketing...

@Wombat Just because something cost 3 times more doesn't make it more reliable.

Problem is that with Apple is that you are stuck with what you buy. No upgrades + they will make sure once the macbook is to old (3-4 years), they throttle it down and make it slow as fuck.
