Hi everyone,
I got an hardware question. Im planning on getting a personal home server. I want to use it as a small gitlab server, continues integration, and the like for personal projects.
It has to be power efficient otherwise my dad will start crying.
I want it to be relatively cheap and running linux.
Ive got no clue what the best thing todo is. Should I get a prebuild one or build one myself.
For prebuild ones, what brands should I look at?
For a custom built what hardware do you recommend me?

    Would a raspberry pi be powerful enough?

    @Darkovernerd I don't think so I would like to be able to run at least two or three CI tasks at the same time.

    Grab an old laptop like a thinkpad.
    Power eficient, integrated ups, and emergency console all in one small package

    @nbamaral I did that with my old Surface Pro 1. Forced it into low-power mode with tlp and installed a Nextcloud server on it.
    Runs fast and completely silent.

    @Codex404 Nowadays you can get old used Thinkpads like the X220 pretty cheap, so maybe that could do the job.

    Or even something bigger like a t61 / t400.
    Mainly because of the centrino pro, in case he wants to virtualize stuff.

    @nbamaral I didnt even thinknof using an old laptop for this. I took a quivk look online and saw a nice T61 for just 60 euros. The battery (which isnt needed) is dead.

    Core2duo 2.2Ghz
    4gb ram
    160GB HDD

    And I also get a brand new in box docking station with it.

    I guess that would work.

    @Condor running CI and maybe automated buildsare a bit heavier I think. And getting the pi is more expensive then the above mentioned laptop.
