A good rule of thumb when developing applications with a good user experience is to assume that your user is the dumbest person that is walking this planet right now, and make it so that one individual can figure out how to use your application.

Being dumb is sometimes its own kind of genius. They will act in ways you can't even begin to think off.

I have also heard about design principle that expects the user to be drunk. Saw an amusing video on YouTube but couldn't find the link now :(

@okkimus I'm pretty sure even when I'm drunk I'm more capable then a lot of people ...not to gloat or anything but there's some REALLY stupid people out there...

There's acutually an expression in German for it: DAU Dümmster Anzunehmender User, wihich roughly translates to most stupidbimagionable user. It's a derivation from GAU, which means biggest imaginable accident, which is designatet for like atomic powerplant failures and such.
