Well since you probably use the gnu compiler collection which is available on all Linux distros every of them is usable for developing. So your question is probably more a personal preference. I'm using voidlinux because its open source. Before that I used arch and parabola, both are great distros too. As a de I'm using i3-gaps, unlike ubuntus default de its a tiling window manager, meaning that your windows are tiled instead of overlapping other windows. I really like that because its individual and you can configure it as you need. And its really lightweight so 💪

I'm on Antergos, (Arch based) and since you have access to AUR, you have everything you can imagine.

There is only one real problem using Ubuntu or distro using versions. If you want to work with the last features which are in the last clang or gcc... Well you may try the unstable version, but you probably won't even be able to get the last one like that. So using distro like Arch allow you to control that.

Linux is Linux. There isn't a "best" one for programmers or designers or construction workers or anyone else. Try a few and see which one you like. If Ubuntu tickles your hoo-ha then stick with it.
