lungdart3387121d@superdupernova right on. I trained a little boxing, make sure you're getting about 50% of the training time in actual sparring if you want it to be effective.
The more you train the less you'll want to fight though. Especially with strikes -

Buddy's Taekwondo instructor told him boxing (as a self-defense) is only affective against someone who is not a boxer. Probably true for the majority of martial arts.
The military guys here say learning Jujitsu is the most affective self defense, since the majority of hand-to-hand combat will end up on the ground anyway. Might as well know how to lock the guy up and choke them out (before they do it to you). -
lungdart3387121d@PaperTrail yup. Just don't forget to train take downs and wrestling up. Transitioning from standing to ground helps get you the chokes. No guard pulling in the street.
Reverse is helpful in the real world when buddies friends will boot stomp you the second you hit the ground. Get up and get up fast -
