Install it as a VM first. There you can easily reset it.

@Makenshi gave good advice. Try the Linux distro out with Virtualbox on Windows to get your feet wet.

Make wrong things. You can use a VM or make an image of your hdd, but if you want to learn and get comfortable with what you can and maybe should not do, play around and destroy that thing.
