As a guy with a Intel 6800K I now really feel robbed of my money by Intel.

For over 10 years they knew of the heavy design flaw and put it through.

The ironic thing is, that every country will set up a penalty for Intel, but the Customers with the CPU's wont even see a buck.

It sucks that I have up to 30% less CPU Power after next weeks patch.
I will banish Intel now forever!! You should never come again in my Business!!!

Even my newly ordered Tablet with a Intel chip will suck d*ck now...

Wha...? Flaw? Am I missing something?

I don't get the point of buying 'latest' software when you won't even juice maximum out of it.

It's like when people bought nVidia's Titan before there was game that required such power... pointless.

    i7-4790K user here.

@MatanRad It was recently discovered that Intel CPUs would have a memory access restriction or something like that that would let almost anything (even a JS Script on a browser) access your kernel or something like that. So the Linux Kernel was updated with KPTI (Kernel Page Table Isolation) that will slow down the computer. Windows and MacOS (and probably iOS) will also need to update.

    I have a 6800k too.
    just one question.

when you built your machine (before ryzen i suppose) did you had another option except intel?

    amd cpu(s) (before-ryzen) sucks.
and we don't know if amd will continue to release good cpus. or intel will release a new overkill chip pushing amd again in the darkness.

@shelladdicted At that time the 6800K was the best X99 cost/performance CPU.

The AMD Bulldozer CPU back then were crap.

But if you summ it up, with the flaw back then, AMD had beat Intel.

@MoboTheHobo 30% is the maximum CPU power you can lose. It's not constant or raw power. Unless you're running database servers in your computer, you will never even notice it.

Not supporting what Intel did here. Just stating the facts.

@tahnik yea thats why I did wrote up to 30% 😉

But you will also get that drawback if you need all cores of your CPU, like when you would Render a Video.

And it's nowhere really staited, but they will shut away the safe Kernel in a virtual Container and that will heavily impact you CPU Cache. That one will reduce you CPU Speed for real.

@MoboTheHobo yeah, I have the same CPU. I do feel bad. Migrating to Ryzen now is going to be expensive. I will just hope I don't notice the performance difference.

And selling x99 is always a pain.
