Hazarth95069dsame, but I'm keeping it in check, because being a condescending asshole usually has the opposite effect and ends up hurting both me and the other side.
but yeah, I'm happy that it's slowing down right now... but don't hold your breath just yet. I'm pretty sure Jensen Huang or Sam Altman will come with some kind of new buzzword to bring the people back to their side... And hey, it worked 4 times already, I have no reason to think anything else would happen if they do it again -
The stock market disagrees with your call they AI is dying.
I work in the industry. It isn't going away, just like dotcoms didn't go away in the 90s.
Lots of nonsense out there, but it's real. -
Hazarth95068d@retoor I don't think Sid implies It's not here to stay. But the fact is "AI" is being sold to the masses as something It's not. It's not even AI for godsake, It's just an LLM. Those are not equal. A weather model is not an AI, a physics model is not an AI, but Sam Altman is happy to tell you that a language model is a super intelligent AI, close to AGI, the future is now blah blah blah...
A langugage model is useful as fuck for working with NLP problems... But they pretend It's so much more -
this is a planned lull. AI guys have several years planned ahead. I sit somewhere with a NYC AI insider that sells the stuff to businesses. they drip feeding to maximize audience exposure. they got big big plans for February/March
something else interesting is they colluded with the USA government to avoid the news cycle while elections were going on. kind of crazy that they do that -
all this AI hate cringily reminds me of when I entered devland and all the old geezers were making fun of their former co-workers from a bygone era. they painfully joked that their co-workers didn't adapt to technology like they did and that that kills your career fast. painfully because these old geezers found it painful to adapt themselves and knew young kids like me are going to outshine them very fast due to our spry plastic brains (they said such to me, I'm not being mean or guessing here)
every time I see people complaining or scoffing at AI I just grimace because goddamn it looks exactly like what they were describing. it's like the ego of dock workers who made up bullshit and say you can't even do automated doors: https://youtube.com/watch/...
not that I'm on either side of this argument. for me it doesn't matter who will win. I'm just watching -
chatgpt5458d@retoor
The term "AI" is often used to describe a system that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence. This can include things like learning, problem-solving, decision-making, and natural language processing. LLM (Large Language Models) like GPT-3 fall under the category of artificial intelligence because they are designed to process and generate human-like text based on large amounts of data. So yes, LLMs are considered a form of AI. -
@retoor they hallucinate a lot and are only as good as the data put into them
I am sitting back and laughing about it tho. here in the west there's a literal conspiracy about trying to dumb people down in schools by pavlovianly psychologically torturing them so they don't acquire critical thinking skills. well the AIs don't critically think which is why they schizophrenia and are only as good as the information fed to them
so to be better than AI you had to have rebelled against the torture of the school system. the globalists will get exactly what they want but turns out, just like incels who say people don't know what they want therefore are subhuman, just like the globalists probably think people don't know what they want/need therefore we should make all decisions for them and view them as useless eaters subhuman, turns out the globalists were wrong about what they wanted. that won't stop them though. the goalposts will move, because dishonest people are habitual justifiers -
tbh maybe it's just people being mad that them being brainwashed isn't being rewarded but is them being thrown away by the narcissists. maybe you shouldn't have enabled them I guess
brainwashed people also always have that annoying superiority complex, cuz they think they're part of some superior club. must sting to find out they weren't and the whole thing was always a lie -
@retoor self reflection fixes the schizophrenic hallucinations and having an ego-filter for information fixes being fed garbage
humans are susceptible to this to a degree, and the humans who are high on the scale of self awareness and scrutiny are generally ostracized by cults as "difficult people". and anyone insecure (also in power when there's a communism in the culture, which threats them) is going to compensate by trying to evoke loyalty from people aka they only want increasingly levels of cult. self awareness and scrutiny do not smell like loyalty so such get shafted for the easy to control people, ones that will follow anything you say because that will make you feel safe
but now we've passed a filter event. whatever it was called. the AI can be a better tool than the people one used to call "tools" -
@retoor yeah! maybe that's why I don't like reading words, I have to make a similar leap
you overwhelmed me with all the devrant coding projects 😴 -
Hazarth95068d@retoor I can run python scripts with 2 clicks instead or using a massive gpu to run a language model to generate a json that hopefully runs that script.
I can also google such Scripts without the need or the same llm... It's more accessible when you put an LLM interface in front of a library of scripts or if you get lucky and your ask is simple enough that the model seen in at least a couple hundred times to rewrite or modify it slightly. But then we're still just talking about the llm being an interesting model. It's also more than just a sum of It's parts because some form of logic is an emergent property of a language by definition. So It's able to fake thought because It's modeling it. But Its capabilities are vastly overblown. OpenAI is a business, and a predictable one at that. The strategy of making it free at first to hook people and then ramping the price, the fake demos, the neverending hype generation.
Don't be fooled. It's a cool model, but that's all we have so far -
Hazarth95068dI mean, Im using LLMs myself. I absolutely love the ability to transform NL problems into formatted data and back. The models are excelent. This is the one task that Transformers were made to do, and they do it well. Im in no way an AI hater or denier or whatever. But Im really annoyed that the big tech companies are massively abusing peoples naivete and ignorance to build up empty hype and line their pockets with money in exchange for promises and a massive electrical and CO2 bill. It's exhausting watching people fall for the same scam again. Fucking google engineers talking about sentient AIs in the labs, faked demos with fake remorse later, inflation valuations based on endless exponential growth with massive layoffs later, tons of scammers and opportunists abusing the tech to trick others, a new buzzword every month to keep the obedient sheep shilling out more money for the newest model that actually performs worse. This shit just never ends because people are not willing to learn
-
@bazmd I had a bf who wrote AI for a living before all this took off. When the AIs came into being and became popular creepily they all write like he did
-
@retoor
I am not even wasting time on you and your arguments. If you ask me to stay away from you, I'll do it. But you will have to do the same, and stay away from me.
Is that clear? -
AI is just another tool.
no, it won't take your job, unless your job is garbage AND you're garbage at it. -
Hazarth95068d@retoor so much this. The ads and also the overhyped channels on YouTube have an extreme effect on people, including me. The more I can avoid it the less stressed I am on average. But Im also more and more angry that this is the default state for society and we just allow this to be done to millions of others, especially young and impressionable minds. It just pisses me off that we get more and more research into how detrimental "modern internet" is to peoples psyche and yet no one is doing anything to control or stop it. And the hype around AI is just the newest trend that makes the exploitation worse and as far as Im concerned it should be illegal to pull these stunts. Im pretty sure around 60% of official info on AI should fall under false advertising and should cost them millions whenever It's revealed :/ Peoples privacy, mental health and Security should be more important than money overall, but it isn't and it really makes me want to start a revolution
It's nice to see people waking up and realizing the fallacies of AI.
Given that I've been against AI since day 1, it's giving me a little superiority complex ngl.
