This looks like you have the same laptop as me. I installed antergos on it about 2 months ago alongside windows. It looked and felt realy great and and pacman and AUR are amazing to use. But sadly after a few days it wouldn't start anymore and went into a kernel panic while trying to load the initramfs. I tried to solve it for a few days, but couldn't so I installed Debian Gnome instead which has been incredibly stable for me. End of the story: I'm just not ready for anything Arch based yet, at least not on my main work maschine.

Good choice getting off Windows, but I tried antergos for a week before switching to Manjaro which, imho, is far better

@irene I think it's good, I just think Manjaro offers more features, while still keeping every feature which arch has
That said, I'd probably install plain arch on an old computer or laptop

None of the arch installers have actually ever worked on my laptop. :/

Well... I haven't really heard much about Antergos before installing... What I knew was that it's really close to plain Arch, and that my nVidia Optimus setup (nVidia Quadro K2000M and Intel HD Graphics) won't scream at it... TBH I've been thinking between Antergos, Manjaro, Fedora and openSUSE... But I also really wanted to get into the AUR... I might as well just try this, and if it's not working, I can easily switch to something else (I have 2 weeks of vacation now)... But I really appreciate the suggestions and warnings. 🙂

@tomiolah1998 fair enough, but Manjaro is of course arch based too, so you get the aur there too

@HelloUglyWorld I started moving to Linux-compatible software (GIMP, Audacity, Atom, Bash, etc.) way back on Windows - I was really preparing for this switch, and I made sure that it'll not be painful. 🙂

@j4cobgarby Yes, I knew that, but I've heard that the Manjaro forum doesn't support AUR-based questions ( as its use is not encouraged), while the Antergos Forum does...

@tomiolah1998 Really? I've never heard That, as far as I can tell the aur is used as much on Manjaro as arch or antergos

I don't agree with people saying Manjaro is better. I tried both and prefered Antergos, which is basically Arch with extra packages and sane defaults. The fact that the default DE for Manjaro is Xfce is kind of.. I don't know, it's not for me, and in my experience staying with distros default DE always offer a better experience (Gnome for Antergos, which I prefer). That said, even if I had no problem with Antergos, I always come back to Ubuntu LTS because I don't have to compile packages each time I need to update (AUR) and it's the most supported distro.

@vincetrot Manjaro offers many versions each with different DEs, as well as several community editions

@tomiolah1998 are you still travelling through those dense grasslands or did you find outta there??

@daintycode Yes, I found out... I installed a niche theme, VSCode (+ I Synced my settings from a Gist)), etc. - it was fully functional. Last night before sleep I had a wild thought: 'let's try the nVidia drivers'. So I installed it, and I prepared every possible forum thread on the keywords "nvidia arch drivers error". I still have to power on my machine. If it all goes down, I'm gonna install Fedora (that's what my 60 yrs old uni teacher recommended...)
